This is just a BAD idea.
I try to stay out of the political debating game, but this just seems like a bad idea. If in the state of Maryland, the Republican governor and the Democrat mayor of Baltimore (soon to be governor candidate) agree on something, you know it must be a bad idea.

In other news, I'm coming back to work after a 4-day weekend. Gotta love that. Friday I took a precious metal clay jewelry class, which was quite fun. I'll post some pictures of my creations as soon as I can. I'm hoping to use the metal clay to create silver settings for my fused glass.
Saturday was day one of the "going cold-turkey" potty training method of my two-year-old. It did not go as well as I'd hoped. Let me just tell you that potty training sucks on many levels. When training my oldest son, we used pull-ups and it took forever to get him out of the pull-ups, especially at night. For that reason, we're not going to use pull-ups the second time around. Poor little one must have had 6-7 accidents in his new football underwear Saturday. For as bad as the day went, we decided not to try the underwear overnight. Yeah, I know, inconsistency, yadda yadda, whatever. I was tired of changing his clothes and didn't feel like changing sheets all night.
Sunday was day two and only lasted about an hour as we discovered our refrigerator had died. Little One had an accident as I was trying to move the contents of the kitchen refrigerator to the basement refrigerator. We decided given the need to go shop for a replacement refrigerator and not wanting to deal with accidents in Sears or Home Depot to bag the potty training for the day and put him back in a diaper. Yeah, again I know inconsistency. The new refrigerator will deliver on Thursday and in the meantime, I'm getting some exercise going up and down stairs for food.
Day three, Monday. President's Day. Holiday from work. Try the underwear again in the morning. Not even 5 minutes in the underwear and he pees in them. Bag the potty training again. I know. I know! The in-laws will be in town this coming weekend and since we'll probably want to go out and do things while they are visiting, we'll wait two weeks to try again.
Since we bagged the potty training, I packed the Little One up and we went to the mall. We went to the Apple store and I drooled over the 30gb iPod. I want one so bad. I will have to hold off on purchasing for a bit longer since the new refrigerator will be eating our tax refund. It is always something.

You'll get your ipod.
I have nothing to add about the potty training. Sounds really difficult.

Potty training is not fun. I wish I could take more credit for our son's training, but I have to say his daycare center did the bulk of it. However, I do remember the fun of those thick cloth underpants soaked or stained...I know it's all going to come back in a year or so with our daughter...

Our doc says that he doesn't recommend potty training until kids are closer to 3. It's easier then. But that the best way of telling if a child is ready is just by observing the child. If they want to use the potty and wear big kid undies, then try it. Otherwise wait. He said that as long as kids are fully trained by kindergarten, it's all good. (this is jadette's neurodevelopmental pediatrician) He says that people start early because of some social pressure to get the kid to use the potty earlier than the neighbor's kid.
Jadette is potty trained during the day, but isn't always good at night. She still has accidents from time to time, so she wears Goodnights to bed. She wanted nothing to do with potty training until a few months ago. Once she tried on big girl panties, she wouldn't wear pull ups. She's only had a couple of accidents, and none recently. But, it was ultimately her decision.
Good luck!

MA-When I do get the iPod, I'll want some of your music for it.
Mass-Don't even get me started about the daycare. Good luck with your round two.
Jaded-He turns 3 in June and in order for him to move into his next class at school has to be potty trained. Yeah us!

There are SO MANY reasons my "kids" are dogs! You have my sympathies and respect.
